Peace Corps Timeline

Even though every applicant's timeline is different and varies widely, for those interested, here's mine:

DAY 0: Jan 23, 2013 - submit application. I started the application sometime in December. This is actually the third time I've started the application in the last 30 years but I never sent it in before.

DAY 14: Feb 6, 2013 - interview. Had a great interview and was nominated for "Secondary English Teacher Trainer" for October 2013 departure. Immediately completed the pre-medical application and received the fingerprint and legal paperwork a few days later.

DAY 25: Feb 17, 2013 - pre-medically cleared

DAY 27: Feb 19, 2013 - mailed in legal paperwork.

DAY 34: Feb 26, 2013 - legally cleared. Seems strange that something that should take a month took less than a week, but I'm not complaining.

DAY 143: June 15, 2013 - sent an email to my recruiter asking if I should email placement about my status who replied it wouldn't hurt.

DAY 147: June 19, 2013 - sent an email to the Placement office in Washington, DC and got a reply:
I can share that we will not issue you an invitation for an October departure. The reviews will be conducted over the next couple of months and we expect to complete (your) review in September, if not before. At this time we are filling programs departing between November and March.

DAY 168: July 10, 2013 - received an email from the Placement Office of the Peace Corps asking if I was still interested and if so, would I answer some more questions. One of which was:
Are you open to being considered for English Teacher programs departing between January 2014 – March 2014?

Of course, I said "yes". I answered all their questions and returned the email within an hour of receiving it.

Day 169: July 11, 2013
Congratulations! It is with great pleasure that we invite you to begin training in Thailand for Peace Corps service.

I will leave for staging on January 10th, 2014, just a few days short of a year since I applied. My assignment will be as a Teacher Collaborator and Community Facilitator, most likely working with a primary school English teacher in the countryside. So very excited!!!

Day -172 to -84: July 22 to October 18, 2013 - Medical/Dental exams including blood tests, eye exam, dental x-rays, vaccinations, and EKG.

Day -74: October 28, 2013 - Medically cleared!
