Dear James,

Congratulations! It is with great pleasure that we invite you to begin training in Thailand for Peace Corps service. You will be joining thousands of Americans who are building stronger communities around the world. This call to action gives you the opportunity to learn new skills and to find the best in yourself.

For 50 years, this letter would arrive in an applicants mailbox in a blue envelope. Search YouTube and you can find many videos of people "opening" their blue envelopes to see where they were being sent. Now, it's just an email. Not the same but just as exciting because you can see the email subject line reads "Peace Corps - Invitation!"

I had just gotten home from a long day at work but as soon as I read the email, I was suddenly full of energy. Even though I had an appointment to get to, I spent a few frantic minutes emailing friends and posting updates on Facebook. Wow, the response was great. Even now, a few days after, I'm just now coming down from that adrenaline rush from such monumental news.

So, here is what I know now:

Program: Teacher Collaboration and Community Service (TCCS)
Job Title: Teacher Collaborator and Community Facilitator
Staging Dates: January 10, 2014
Training (in Thailand ): January 13, 2014 - March 23, 2014
Dates of Service: March 23, 2014 - March 22, 2016

The Teacher Collaboration and Community Service (TCCS) project is geared to support school teachers in rural Thailand to improve and apply participatory learning methods, especially in the English classroom. The scope of the Volunteer’s work, however, is not limited to the classroom. Volunteers are encouraged to collaborate with teachers and community members to enhance the quality of life through the promotion of life skills and the development of the school community.

As I learn more, I'll post more. :)
