Lamp of the Path

"Lamp of the Path" Needs Your HELP!

Because of the loss of a major donor, LOP is in desperate need of funds to keep its doors open. With below freezing temperatures in Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia), LOP provides free hot meals in a warm safe environment for over 50 men, women and children every day, many with physical and mental handicaps and/or homeless. LOP also provides free medical care with an in-house doctor and nurse for the sick of the ger district. They are currently trying to raise $16,000 by April 25th to keep providing services to the poor and sick for the next 3-4 months while LOP tries to find more permanent funding. Without your support, there is no way to keep helping these people who are in such need.

Please consider a donation and please pass on this appeal to any who might be able to help.

$850 Raised so far. Thank you. But they still could use your help.

At the collapse of communism in 1990 Mongolia followed the rest of the communist nations from a centrally controlled economy to a market economy. This lead to a great deal of hardship as thousands lost their source of income. People fled the rural areas where they were no longer able to make a living as nomadic herders and many of those moving to the cities found themselves unequipped to find not only employment but even the more basic needs of food and shelter.

The final outcome of this demographic revolution resulted in a large population of homeless and very poor people who are old, mentally or physically impaired or of single parent families.

To help support these homeless and vulnerable people, in 2005 Lamp of the Path NGO was established to take over the social welfare activities of FPMT Mongolia . Its activities are centered at Dolma Ling Community Center located in the “Ger District” on the outskirts of Ulaanbaatar. With winter temperatures below minus 40F (-40C), the warm Dolma Ling Community Center is a welcome respite for the homeless.
