Riding through downtown Westport

The morning couldn't have been any clearer. The memory of rain was long gone and replaced by a beautiful blue sky and sunshine. But it still was a little on the cool side.

From here on, we followed the coast highway. That means lots of climbs, and subsequent downhills. But the scenery was so wonderful and the weather was so good, it was just great to be out riding.

To get this view, your ride UP!

We ran into Kiwi cyclist Jon again. All four of us ended up having lunch at a roadside bar/restaurant in Punakaiki. From there we stopped off at Pancake Rocks next. Interesting but way too many tourists and tourist buses.

The wind picked up as we continued out up and down roller coaster ride all the way to Greymouth. It was late when we finally reached the city center. Met another cyclist who highly recommended a backpacker hostel a little farther down the road.

I've never stayed in a place like the “Global Village”. If the other 250 packpackers are like this, I wouldn't stay anywhere else. The whole place had an African theme throughout, including our room. The four of us ended up getting a suite. After getting cleaned up, we headed back to the city center for a late night dinner.

The problem was that it was so late, that nothing was open so we ended up eating at McDonald's. But we were so hungry, it was great.
